Being one of the most influential design movements of the 20th century, Art Deco is still around today.. From the historic buildings we see walking down the streets of Vancouver (City Hall, the Marine Building and even the Water Treatment Plant) to the 2014 runway shows and the furniture in your rich aunt's Yaletown condo. This influential visual arts design style came to us from France after WWI and flourished internationally for over 3 decades in the early 1900s. The rich colours, lavish ornamentation and assertively symmetrical bold geometric shapes are what really catch our eye. I mean, how visually pleasing was it watching The Great Gatsby.. not to mention our long standing love affair with Leo. There's a reason those costume designers took home an Oscar.
